SUMMARY:DSFE annual meeting 2021
DESCRIPTION:Theme “Pragmatic trials: academic\, regulatory\, and industry perspective”.\nWhereas the traditional randomized controlled trial is designed to establish efficacy of a specific drug\, i.e. the effect under ideal conditions\, the pragmatic trial is designed to establish effectiveness\, i.e. how well the drug works in everyday clinical practice. To present the topic from different angles\, we have invited speakers from regulatory agencies\, academia\, and the industry including Mira G.P. Zuidgeest and Simon Skibsted.\nPlease sign up by sending an email to info@dsfe.dk\, no later than October 20th. We hope as many of you as possible are able to participate and we are looking forward to see you! \nLink to more information

SUMMARY:Method talk by Shirley Wang in Odense & online
DESCRIPTION:To join online please follow this link \n\nDesign visualization\, unambiguous reporting and replicability of real-world evidence \nShirley Wang from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University will join the pharmacoepidemiology group in Odense November 6th and will give a talk on the game-changing REPEAT Initiative (www.repeatinitiative.org). \nWith this project\, Shirley and her colleagues have not only highlighted important issues in the (lack of) transparency in conduct and reporting of epidemiological studies\, but also provided much needed guidance on how to improve upon this in the future. \nThe talk will take place in “Store Auditorium” in WP15 at University of Southern Denmark near Odense University Hospital. We will also stream the event online in collaboration with the Danish Society for Pharmacoepidemiology. \nRegistration (either in Odense or online) can be done to Emma at ebjsimonsen@health.sdu.dk. \nLook forward to seeing you all ! \nA bit more info about the talk: \nReal-world data analyses from non-randomized administrative and clinical healthcare databases have become a vital tool\, providing key insights for regulators\, payers\, and other healthcare decision makers. However\, healthcare decision-makers have emphasized the need greater transparency in research that make secondary use of databases. In her talk\, Dr. Wang will present the REPEAT Initiative\, which has embarked on several projects aimed at improving transparency\, reproducibility and validity of database research. These projects include large scale replication of 150 peer-reviewed\, published database studies\, evaluation of the robustness of results to alternative design and implementation parameters\, and development of a structured reporting template with design visualization to increase transparency of reporting and minimize misinterpretation. \nBio: Dr. Wang’s research is focused on 1) developing innovative\, non-traditional analytic methods to understand the safety and effectiveness of medication use in routine clinical care as well as 2) facilitating appropriate use of complex methods for analyzing large observational healthcare data. She has received awards for her methods work from the Society for Epidemiologic Research and the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology. She recently co-led a joint task force for the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) focused on improving the credibility of evidence generated from real-world healthcare databases by increasing transparency and replicability. In 2017\, she launched the REPEAT Initiative.
